Billy Flake searched for his mother on Tuesday, April 9, 2002, only to find an empty and undisturbed house. His mother's pocketbook was still in the house, but she was nowhere to be found.

NEW HAVEN -- Police are investigating a shooting in the West Hills neighborhood that is being treated as a possible homicide. The shooting happened before 11 p.m. in the area of 528 Valley St. Police released no other details, but said the injuries appeared to be very serious.

Detectives say the occupants of the Jeep may have seen the June 30 shooting of Matthew Moore on Corona Avenue.

PASADENA - A man was found dead in a Rose Bowl parking lot in the early morning hours Monday, the victim of an undetermined number of gunshots.
Residents living east of the stadium reported gunshots just before 4 a.m. Pasadena Police officers conducted an initial search of the area, but didn't find the victim, a suspect or spent bullet casings. The man - who has not been identified but has been described as a black male in his 30s - was found by a Rose Bowl employee about 5 a.m. in parking lot I, south of Seco Street, said. Det. Tracey Ibarra of the Pasadena Police Department.

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST - Officials began a homicide investigation Thursday after announcing that arson caused a massive wildfire that has burned nearly 150,000 acres, destroyed dozens of homes and killed two firefighters.
The Station Fire started on Aug. 26 in the Angeles National Forest above La Canada Flintridge. It has charred 226 square miles and is considered the second largest fire in Los Angeles County history.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department launched a homicide investigation today after a 33-year-old Lake Elsinore woman was found dead in Landers.
The woman, Tanya Petro, was reported missing by her family on Jan. 7, and was last seen on Jan. 4, as she left her Lake Elsinore apartment complex, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department press release.

Detectives have opened a homicide investigation in the death of a newborn boy whose body was found in a bathroom waste basket in Studio City last year, officials said Thursday.
The unidentified mother, who was 18 at the time, was initially questioned by police after her baby's body was found Nov. 8 in the bathroom of her home in the 4500 block of Simpson Avenue, officials said.
