NORTH BERGEN -- A fire ravaged a vacant building Monday morning, and investigators are trying to determine whether a homeless person may have been inside.
The two-story building at 5203 John F. Kennedy Blvd. caught fire about 1:40 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the back part of the building had collapsed, said North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Charles Thomas.

IN SEASONS PAST, when I gave to charities, something that's hard to afford this year, I pictured the people waiting outside my local market asking for food and the homeless I see sleeping hunched against nooks in buildings around town, not people like me with kids, a job and an education.

Two organizations that are dedicated to helping the homeless in the Dayton area are challenging you to live the life of a homeless person for 12 hours.
The experiment is sponsored by The Other Place and St. Vincent de Paul and will begin Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. and will end Nov. 13 at 7 a.m.

A homeless person trying to get warm by starting a fire in a vacant apartment's fireplace wound up setting the whole structure on fire, Evansville firefighters said.
Fire crews responded to 25 W. Franklin St. shortly before noon Monday. No one has lived at the property for months, but it is "frequented by homeless people," said District Chief Tim Krack of the Evansville Fire Department.
