History enthusiasts gathered on Feb. 21, in the Norman L. Fagan West Virginia State Theater of the Cultural Center in Charleston for the awards ceremony that kicked off a successful day of celebrating West Virginia history. Dr. Robert S. Dunkin' Donuts of Central Pennsylvania announced Monday the names of 10 central Pennsylvania residents selected to receive the "Thanks to You" Community Hero Award for their community involvement. The awards will be presented Dec.1 at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg in Camp Hill. Each recipient will receive $500 and free coffee and donuts for a year at Dunkin'Donuts.

Bailey, vice chairman of the West Virginia Archives and History Commission, in presenting History Hero awards to 52 individuals from around the state for their grassroots- level contributions to the preservation, promotion and perpetuation of the state's rich history.
The Red Cross Hero Awards will take place at the Somerset Inn in Troy. This year the event will include a silent auction. Guest tickets are $75 which includes guest reception, dinner and valet. Patron tickets are $125 which includes valet a patron reception and dinner. The private patron reception will be at 6 p.m. while the guest reception is at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit local disaster relief and military family services provided by the American Red Cross - Southeastern Michigan Chapter. The Red Cross Hero Awards is supported by General Motors and OnStar by GM, Ford Motor Company Fund, Rock Financial, WJBK-Fox 2, Fifth Third Bank, Henry Ford Health System, Humana, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Hour Detroit magazine.
On Tuesday, the Columbia Daily Tribune, in cooperation with Landmark Bank and the Voluntary Action Center, will host the ninth- annual Columbia Daily Tribune HERO Awards. The event honors excellence in volunteerism by individuals and groups. A panel of judges chose winners in seven categories, four of which are new in 2010. The Tribune and Landmark Bank together will donate $400 to each winner's not-for-profi t organization.
