To do that, the organization will offer advocate training from 5 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday for 12 weeks at its Dover-Foxcroft headquarters.

To help abuse victims, S.A.V.E. has recently established an Online Support Group for survivors of domestic violence. The Support Group is designed to assist persons in their journey from hurting to healing to helping. Available in a Yahoo group format, the group is open all to victims and survivors of domestic violence.

The Justice Department awarded more than $500,000 in stimulus money on Thursday to two northern Utah programs that help provide housing for victims of domestic violence.
Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse in Logan was awarded $344,231 to provide transitional housing for women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence. Women in the program are helped to develop plans for self-sufficiency, including budgeting, financial counseling and assistance with credit repair.

Billboards are going up in southern Utah to alert people from polygamous communities about help available for victims of abuse and domestic violence.
The Utah Attorney General's Office said Reagan Outdoor Advertising donated four billboards in St. George, Cedar City, Parowan and Mount Carmel Junction to promote the Domestic Violence Link Line -- a 24-hour telephone number that provides free, confidential help to abuse victims.

Training for the help line, which is open to victims of domestic abuse, will begin 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, and will meet every Monday and Wednesday for six weeks.

This study investigated the effects of a pregroup motivational intervention for domestic abuse perpetrators. Men presenting for treatment at a community domestic violence agency ( N = 108) were assigned to receive either a two-session intake using the techniques of motivational interviewing (MI) or a structured intake (SI) control. All participants were then referred to a cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) program in groups homogeneous with respect to intake condition. The motivational intake led to more constructive insession behavior during the early phase of group CBT, greater compliance with group CBT homework assignments, higher late session therapist ratings of the working alliance, and more help seeking outside of the domestic violence program.
