More than half of UPMC's 19 hospitals in Western Pennsylvania have achieved advanced use of electronic medical records, the health system said on Thursday.
Citing a review by HIMSS Analytics, a subsidiary of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, UPMC said UPMC Bedford Memorial, UPMC Passavant, Magee Womens Hospital, UPMC McKeesport, UPMC Mercy, UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside and UPMC St. Margaret have reached Stage 6, second from the top stage, for adoption of electronic medical records.

Technology helps nurses improve patient care and allows them more time at patients' bedsides, according to a study conducted by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Analytics.
The study included interviews with nurses from throughout the United States and showed that they found point-of-care technology allowed them more access to information, decreased response time and an overall reduction in the time to process orders.

Three of the Armonk-based company's four affiliated hospitals - White Plains Hospital Center, Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville and Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco - reached a Stage 6 designation for their electronic medical records (HMR) systems from the analytics subsidiary of the national Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
