President Obama's campaign promise to dismantle new conscience protections for health care professionals could let governments and medical institutions threaten the careers of pro-lifers who refuse involvement with abortion and contraception issues, a pro-life medical coalition said yesterday.
About 40 doctors, medical students, nurses and lab technicians - all dressed in white lab coats - lined up at the National Press Club on Wednesday to dramatize their opposition to rescinding the extra protections put into place last December by President Bush.

YAKIMA, Wash. -- State Attorney General Rob McKenna made his argument against the president's health care reform plan to medical students in Yakima on Friday, drawing a mixed response from the crowd of future medical professionals at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.
McKenna is one of 26 state attorneys general who filed suit against the Affordable Care Act. McKenna's biggest stated concern with Barack Obama's plan is the mandate for individuals to buy health insurance, which he calls an abuse of the federal government's powers to regulate commerce.

You've got to take what you can get, then you go after what you want," picketer Genevieve Cervera said, after calling single payer a "lost cause.
"He might as well give up if he can't get this done with 60 senators," Santa Fe health care protester Robert Baroody says of [Barack Obama]. Perhaps Baroody's harsh judgment is no surprise, given that he helped run Ralph Nader's last presidential campaign in New Mexico. But such dissatisfaction was the norm among Baroody's fellow protesters outside [Jeff Bingaman]'s office on Marcy Street.
What follows are total campaign donations from health care interests to New Mexico's congressional delegation members over the span of their careers, as calculated by the Center for Responsive Politics at opensecrets.org. Only Bingaman had significant insu...

The time has come to repeal the president's signature legislative accomplishment. The monstrous bureaucracy that was created by this thousand-page beast is unproductive, mismanaged and an onerous and cumbersome weight on the innovative designs of creative professionals.
Incidentally, for those who might be mistaken, I'm not referring to President Obama's unconstitutional health care takeover, though I'm all for repeal of that as well. No, the marshy swamp of big- government micromanagement to which I refer is President George W. Bush's signature law, the No Child Left Behind Act.

A mere 387 words make up the STEP Act, but the legislation drafted by U.S. Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson is poised to aid tens of thousands of veterans nationwide.
The Servicemembers' Telemedicine and E-Health Portability Act was folded on Thursday into the $690 billion Defense authorization bill and sent to the Senate for passage. If President Obama signs it into law, STEP will expand existing state licensure exemptions for health care professionals credentialed by the Department of Defense, so they can cross state lines to treat military patients.
