NEW YORK -- American designers are having their moment in the spotlight at New York Fashion Week and, in the process, they're building a bigger base of fans. Steven Kolb, executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, said Thursday that he's heard from buyers at the chicest European stores that they're increasingly looking to the United States for new talent. Derek Lam, for example, is one of the best-selling lines at London's Harvey Nichols, according to Kolb.
NORFOLK - , 53, wife of Peter Sisson, died Monday, May 31, 2010. She was born Nov. 1, 1956 in Norfolk to the late Calvin Williams and the late Bernadine Nichols Williams. BOYKINS - Louise Nichols Byrd, 66, entered into eternal rest Jan. 5, 2007, at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. She was the daughter of the late Webster and Carrie Harrell Nichols. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Byrd and a son, Harvey Byrd Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted family: one brother, Paul Nichols of Pennsauken, N.J.; two sisters, Nellie Nichols Jarrett of Norfolk and Helen Vincent of Boykins; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
