Norman W. Griffin, Jr. "Skeeter," 70, entered into rest on January 02, 2007 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Skeeter was a native of Augusta. He was the son of the late Norman W. Griffin, Sr. and the late Celeste Craig Griffin. He graduated from Richmond Academy and Georgia Teacher's College (currently known as Georgia Southern University) where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992 for his baseball and basketball contributions. He played minor league baseball for the Detroit Tigers. He was a science teacher, coach, and athletic director at Richmond Academy. He was later the principal of Southside Elementary School, Langford and Tutt Junior High Schools, and he retired as principal of Westside High School in 1995. GOLD COAST, Australia - Martina Hingis made a successful return to competitive tennis after a three-year absence Monday, beating Venezuela's Maria Vento-Kabchi 6-2, 6-1 in the Australian women's hardcourt championships.
The 25-year-old Hingis, a five-time Grand Slam singles champion before retiring in 2002 because of ankle, heel and foot injuries, started tentatively as both players exchanged service breaks.

ADELAIDE, Australia - Top-seeded Lleyton Hewitt opened his 2005 singles season with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over French qualifier Arnaud Clement in a first-round match today at the Australian men's hardcourt tennis championships.
Hewitt had a series of early unforced errors and dropped four consecutive games in the first set. He found his rhythm in the second, taking the final five games and serving out the set with an ace.
