Los Angeles chefs and restaurants are busy this month and next cooking up plenty of delicious creations for numerous festivals and events. And some new restaurants are in the works or have opened recently, too. Flappers Comedy Club Burbank plans to open in August. In the former Macaroni Grill space, it will feature a 1920s theme "Still Celebrating the Repeal of Prohibition," with three separate dining and show areas. The main showroom will seat 220, a smaller room 50 and the bar with a small stage about 30 to 40. On the B-52's' first album (due out March 25) of new material since 1992's "Good Stuff," Fred Schneider sings, "Hey y'all/Last call/last chance to dance." Not while this group is in the house. Working with producer Steve Osborne, who has produced the Happy Mondays and KT Tunstall, the group faces a problem that has plagued it for years; balancing the demands of airplay versus club play. And on most tracks, the clubs win. Many of the songs could benefit from a bit of editing, being way too long for their own good. Typical is "Love in the Year 3000," which seems made for club play and whose appeal might be enhanced by a bit of alcohol consumption.

INDIO, Calif. - Reunions were the major theme of the three-day Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which wrapped up its ninth year last weekend as one of the world's premiere music gatherings. Despite scorching 100-plus-degree heat, more than 180,000 people from around the world attended the festival, which brought together long-dormant Rage Against the Machine, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Happy Mondays and Crowded House for performances.
