ELLSWORTH Voters in three Hancock County school districts gave final approval to their respective school budgets in budget validation referendum votes on Tuesday.
The referendum votes, which affirmed the decisions made at annual budget meetings earlier this year, are a required step in the school budget process for Regional School Units 24 and 25 under Maines school reorganization law. In Deer Isle and Stonington, voters in the community school district adopted the validation vote process in 2003 and last year voted to continue the practice.

ELLSWORTH - A second Bucksport High School student has been charged with terrorizing in connection with a music CD he and a friend created that included violent lyrics depicting a shooting spree at a high school.
The Hancock County District Attorney's Office has filed formal charges in 5th District Court in Ellsworth against Colton Crane, 17. Crane is scheduled to make his first appearance in court today.

ELLSWORTH - One of two Bucksport High School students who created a music CD with violent lyrics depicting a high school shooting has been formally charged with terrorizing.
The Hancock County District Attorney's Office filed charges Wednesday against Jonathan Hayes, 17, of Bucksport in District Court in Ellsworth. Hayes is scheduled to make his first appearance in juvenile court on Friday.

Willcox appeals the judgment of the Hancock County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division, adjudicating him a delinquent child for inducing panic in a school by pulling a fire alarm at Findlay High School. On appeal, Willcox contends that the trial courts determination was against the sufficiency and manifest weight of the evidence, and that he was denied effective assistance of counsel at the adjudicatory hearing. HOULTON - A Hancock County educator will take the helm of SAD 29 this summer and is excited to work with the school board and southern Aroostook communities to move the district forward, the newly hired superintendent said Thursday.
Mike Hammer, principal of Hancock Grammar School in Hancock, confirmed that he has verbally committed to assume the superintendent's seat in SAD 29. The district consists of the towns of Houlton, Hammond, Littleton and Monticello and has approximately 1,300 students in four schools.
