Generally, the less ocean shorefront property a municipality has, the faster its population grew.

ELLSWORTH -- Despite criticism of a wind power proposal in eastern Hancock County, including some from a county commissioner, the commission voted Thursday to establish financial development agreements with First Wind.
Blue Sky East, a subsidiary of First Wind, is seeking state approval to erect 19 turbines, each with a 1.8 megawatt capacity and 476 feet tall at the highest tip of its blades, in Township 16. Thecompany has applied to the Land Use Regulation Commission for permitting approval to erect the turbines on Heifer and Bull hills.

ELLSWORTH Maines largest wind energy company received the green light on Wednesday to build a 19-turbine wind farm in rural Hancock County but not before regulators attached more stringent noise and financial requirements on the developer.
The fate of a second proposal sought by First Wind, however, remained uncertain Wednesday as members of the Land Use Regulation Commission struggled with whether the 27-turbine project would have unreasonable impacts on the undeveloped landscape northwest of Grand Lake Stream.

ELLSWORTH A Hancock County man with an extensive criminal history was found guilty Wednesday afternoon of 15 charges of burglary and theft.
Randolph W. Garland originally had been charged with 21 counts of burglary and theft in connection with a burglary spree in three Hancock County locales in late 2009 and early 2010.

ELLSWORTH, Maine -- Five Hancock County residents have been arrested over the past three days in three separate drug busts, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
On Wednesday, two Ellsworth residents were arrested at their home on Shore Road after MDEA agents executed a search warrant there, MDEA Division Commander Darrell Crandall indicated Friday in an email. Llewellyn Dwyer, 29, and Adrienne Carter, 23, each were arrested on a Class A charge of aggravated trafficking in drugs, he said. Carter, who has a prior felony drug conviction, also is facing a charge of failure to pay fines.

ELLSWORTH, Maine -- Hancock County officials have adopted a $6.9 million budget for 2012 that is expected to result in a 1 percent increase for county taxpayers.
Expenditures planned in the 2012 budget are roughly $240,000 more than the nearly $6.7 million in expenditures adopted a year ago. The amount to be appropriated by taxation in 2012 is slightly less than $5.2 million, which is $56,000 or a little more than 1 percent more than the $5.14 million the county appropriated in taxes this year.

ELLSWORTH To sort out a dispute between the countys airport manager and chief financial officer, Hancock County commissioners plan to consult with the Federal Aviation Administration over how the countys airport fund should be managed.
Allison Navia, the airports manager, sent commissioners a written complaint on June 17 about $750,000 being transferred from the airports general fund to the countys general fund by Phil Roy, the countys chief financial officer.

PENOBSCOT - While plans for a major wind farm project in northern Hancock County work their way through the review and permitting process, towns in the western part of the county are developing ordinances that would locally regulate the construction of both wind turbines and communications towers in their communities.
Voters in Sedgwick, Penobscot and Brooksville at annual town meetings in the past week have adopted one or both types of ordinances. Votes on those types of ordinances also are coming up in other area towns at annual or special town meetings.
