• Legislators See Plan for Brownfields Development

The Cattaraugus County Business Development Corp. gave county legislators a preview Wednesday of an application for $175,000 in economic development funds from two Olean firms that want to bring industrial manufacturing back to the former Van Der Horst Plant 2 Brownfields site on Johnson Street. Site preparation of two acres are targeted to begin in October by developers Jon Stranburg and Mark Franz of Markjon Properties. Markjon hopes to use the $175,000 to offset an estimated $430,000 site preparation cost. Chris Napoleon of Napoleon Engineering Services said he hopes to move in as an anchor tenant once a 20,000- square-foot building is constructed.

PROVO -- Brigham Young University student Tim van der Horst has been invited to present his latest research in the field of computer security at an international conference this week in Nice, France. A doctoral student in computer science, van der Horst will present at SecureComm 2007, the Third International Conference on Security and Privacy in Communication Networks. Only one-fourth of the research advancements submitted this year were selected to be presented.
