  • The Virginia High School League said Tuesday that Brookville High School was not guilty of a rules violation related to the presence of a college head coach on the Bees' sideline during Saturday's Group AA Division 3 football semifinal at Cave Spring. Cave Spring officials notified the VHSL office in Charlottesville on Monday that Hampden-Sydney College head football coach Marty Favret was interacting with Bees coaches and players in the coaching box on the sideline during the game at Dwight Bogle Stadium.

  • North Cross grads Patrick Henry Scholars at Hampden-Sydney Two North Cross graduates have enrolled as Patrick Henry Scholars with the Class of 2015 at Hampden-Sydney College. The Patrick Henry Scholarship is named to honor the great American patriot and early trustee of Hampden-Sydney.

  • Hampden-Sydney 57, Maryland Bible College 54 Hampden-Sydney closed the final 13:06 of the game with a 22-9 run to erase a 10-point second-half deficit for a hard-fought home victory Saturday.

  • Maurice Fulton Oakes, 82, of Gretna, died on Thursday, October 6, 2011. He was born in Pittsylvania County on November 12, 1928. He was the son of the late A. Fulton Oakes and Hazel Watson Oakes. After graduating from Gretna High School in 1946, he attended Hampden Sydney College where he played baseball and basketball, and was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity.

  • Kanawha Circuit Judge Tod Kaufman will be a Judicial Scholar in Residence this week at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Kaufman is participating by invitation from the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest at the college. He will speak to various classes in pre-law, public policy, American government and career opportunities.

  • CAMPUS William Douglas Russell Jr. was elected to the College Activities Council at Hampden-Sydney College. Will is a graduate of Nansemond- Suffolk Academy and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Douglas Russell.
