The Virginia High School League said Tuesday that Brookville High School was not guilty of a rules violation related to the presence of a college head coach on the Bees' sideline during Saturday's Group AA Division 3 football semifinal at Cave Spring. Cave Spring officials notified the VHSL office in Charlottesville on Monday that Hampden-Sydney College head football coach Marty Favret was interacting with Bees coaches and players in the coaching box on the sideline during the game at Dwight Bogle Stadium.

Maurice Fulton Oakes, 82, of Gretna, died on Thursday, October 6, 2011. He was born in Pittsylvania County on November 12, 1928. He was the son of the late A. Fulton Oakes and Hazel Watson Oakes.
