A resident is circulating a petition requesting municipal officials reduce lighting at the township's only park.
We want to see deer down there, not 40-watt halogen lights," said Robert Hoffman of Highview Road, who approached commissioners last week for a second time with concerns about lighting in Armstrong Park.

A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact that our daily activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases we produce, which is measured in units of carbon dioxide. CFLs reduce the release of greenhouse gas emissions and are safer because they burn at a significantly lower temperature than incandescent and halogen lights.

That abuse, according to scientists, is causing global warming of the planet And when bears can't hibernate because temperatures haven't dropped enough, and flowering plants in some of the coldest regions of our nation are blooming in the winter months instead of spring, I say its more than an anomaly; it's a breach of nature.
I found out that my carbon footprint is 7.3 tons a year. The national average is 7.5. I learned there is plenty I can do to decrease my carbon imprint and help make the planet a healthier place. It's a lot easier than you might think. Here are just a few easy suggestions: Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). CFLs reduce the release of greenhouse gas emissions and are safer because they burn at a significantly lower temperat...

I saw former Vice President Al Gore's academy award winning documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth." It was spell-bounding. While detractors called the film alarmist propaganda, it is clear that humanity is not treating the world humanely. Drought conditions, record high temperatures, the increase in hurricanes, tornados tsunamis, inordinate rates of skin cancer, and the unprecedented changes to our ecosystems are beyond curious. They are a sign that our planet is reacting to the incessant and pervasive environmental abuses we have exacted upon it.
That abuse, according to scientists, is causing global warming of the planet. And when bears can't hibernate because temperatures haven't dropped enough, and flowering plants in some of the coldest regions of our nation are blooming in the winte...

The state legislature must need a vacation. That may be the only way to explain two recent items in discussion: a ban on the sale of incandescent light bulbs as a means of reducing electric energy consumption and reinstatement of highway tolls. Maybe it would be more effective to pass a permanent sales tax exemption on products known to consume less electricity. Another option might be to revisit the legislation concerning the deregulation of electricity suppliers; could it be possible that the wisdom of past legislatures actually caused this situation of skyrocketing electricity rates by insisting that more private companies make a profit from the electricity consumed?
Maybe if they were really rested from a long vacation they might come up with a creative idea and the state would purc...

WICHITA, Kan. - About the time most anglers called it a day because of darkness, the Whitehead brothers launched their boats into the night.
Trusting the tiny map of an illuminated GPS unit, they traveled through the moonless darkness, maneuvering around shallow points and assorted hull-cracking snags. Near the mouth of a narrow creek, a few switches were flipped and rows of halogen lights brought instant light in 40-yard arcs around and above the boats.

Happily for [Barack Obama], he won't need Idaho's four electoral votes to move his family to Pennsylvania Avenue. Yet in the unlikely event that John McCain wins, I thought it would be helpful to my readers if I were to educate them on what to expect from, and how to behave around, the oldest man to ever become president of the United States. I realize many of you - especially you youngsters who may be voting for the first time - have not had the opportunity to enjoy much time in the company of senior citizens, as there's a good chance your own grandparents are spending winters in Arizona and summers on the road in that Winnebago they spent half of their retirement on, in spite of the fact that both Cramps and Granny have had their driving privileges revoked. Or possibly, they are in an...

Charges were filed Monday against four individuals stemming from three separate traffic stops along I-80 that uncovered large amounts of marijuana.
In the first bust, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a Colorado Enterprise rental car near 2000 West on I-80 for speeding on Sept. 27, according to charges filed Monday in 3rd. District Court. The trooper noticed halogen lights in the back seat. A search of the car yielded 30 marijuana plants and five pounds of marijuana. The driver told the trooper he paid $15,000 for the plants and planned to grow marijuana to sell for medicinal purposes.

The season for lamps starts when daylight saving ends," said Doug Aaseby, owner of Lights of Rafael. "The holidays are coming up and people want to shop for lights for their home." The season continues into January, he added.
"Remember the old black halogen floor lamps? Today there are ones that perform similar functions [throwing light up at the ceiling rather than casting it down] but are prettier to look at," [Patrick Killian] said. "It's nice if you have a light-colored ceiling because the lamp light reflects off of it," he said. "If you use a dimmer, you can create different moods.
Whatever you are looking for, don't forget about safety, an important consideration whenever electricity is involved. Decades ago, floor lamps were often considered dangerous because of their tendency ...
