We had some friends visiting us recently and they commented that our two torchiere lamps were dangerous and we ought to get rid of them. We've had these lamps for many years and never had any problems, but they said that they used too much energy and also could start fires. Do you know anything about this? There are actually two separate issues here, and I think you'll be surprised if you do a Web search on torchiere lamps and you see how much has been written about them in the past 10 years or so.
