Mrs. Martha "Louise" Parker, 77, departed this life Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, in Southside Regional Medical Center. She was born March 22, 1930, in Petersburg to the late Carrie (Cora) Bell Williams and Willie Hopkins. Martha received her education in the Petersburg Public School System. After 30 years of service to Fort Lee, Martha retired March 24, 1992. At an early age she accepted Christ and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Halifax Street, Petersburg. Martha was a member of the Women's Association, she served on the Anniversary Committee, the Usher Board and was active with the Feeding Program. Roanoke schools officials are reviving a battle with the Virginia High School League in an attempt to move Patrick Henry and William Fleming high schools to a smaller division that is more centrally located, citing high travel costs.
