Haiti, the Caribbean trade bloc's poorest and most populous member state, will host a heads of government summit for the first time in early July, the Guyana-based bloc secretariat said this week. The July summit is the main one of two held each year. Dominica, the tiny Eastern Caribbean island between the French colonies of Guadeloupe and Martinique, is slated to hold this year's midterm summit next month that will review progress on developing a regional single trading market and the bloc's participation in last month's United Nations climate change summit in Denmark, among other issues. Smart grid technology company BPL Global Ltd. of Cranberry said Thursday it has joined with six companies through its French subsidiary, BPL Global Emea, for a project to improve energy efficiency and reliability on the islands of Corsica, southeast of the French mainland, Guadeloupe in the Caribbean and La Reunion, part of Guatemala. The project named Millener will manage 1,000 energy resources including solar generators, battery storage and load controllers; the cost will be nearly $42 million.
