If the new president were to tap former Middle East envoy Dennis Ross to oversee the nation's Iran policy, they feared, their long- running effort to persuade American officials to lift sanctions could wind up in tatters. The retail vacancy rate in North and Central Jersey improved slightly in July, coming in at 8.06 percent, the lowest rate since January 2009, according to a report from Paramus-based commercial real estate brokerage The Goldstein Group.
Chuck Lanyard, president of The Goldstein Group, said that while retail vacancy rates are likely to remain high due to the sluggish economy, "we are seeing some positive signs and an increase in activity" in leasing.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The militant group holding a Filipino truck driver hostage said they would release him when the last Filipino soldier leaves Iraq, which should take place by the end of the month, according to a statement read Thursday on Al-Jazeera.
The statement came just an hour after Al-Jazeera showed a video of the captive, Angelo dela Cruz, saying he was coming home soon and thanking his government for agreeing to withdraw peacekeepers from the country.

A group of residents living near Downtown decided against trying to limit the colors their neighbors can choose when painting houses and other structures.
About 15 people gathered Wednesday inside the former art gallery at 56 and 58 Adams Ave. to talk about advantages and disadvantages to placing limits on the designs of buildings within a district that encompasses parts of Washington Avenue and nearby streets. The meeting also was to include discussion on the possibility of setting limits on buildings' heights, setbacks and exterior materials and similar features.

In Lee Boehling's six seasons at Radford High School, the Bobcats girls soccer team has made it to the state semifinals every year, the state final five times and was crowned champions in 2007. In 2011, Radford hopes to repeat the performance of four years back after finishing 21-4 last season.
