Shortly before Barack Obama took office, leaders of a prominent Iranian-American group in Washington began to fret. If the new president were to tap former Middle East envoy Dennis Ross to oversee the nation's Iran policy, they feared, their long- running effort to persuade American officials to lift sanctions could wind up in tatters. Patrick Disney, acting policy director of National Iranian American Council (NIAC), summed up the strategy: "Create a media controversy" concerning Mr. Ross, whose support for a tough line on Iran was well known.
The retail vacancy rate in North and Central Jersey improved slightly in July, coming in at 8.06 percent, the lowest rate since January 2009, according to a report from Paramus-based commercial real estate brokerage The Goldstein Group. Chuck Lanyard, president of The Goldstein Group, said that while retail vacancy rates are likely to remain high due to the sluggish economy, "we are seeing some positive signs and an increase in activity" in leasing.

In an interview, Chris Curtin, president and CEO of Bankers Advocate Group, talked about himself, his company, and exit strategy. Curtin said he grew up in Dalton, GA. He had a degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. His dad was an entrepreneur in rock and chemical companies, along with some partners. A group of residents living near Downtown decided against trying to limit the colors their neighbors can choose when painting houses and other structures. About 15 people gathered Wednesday inside the former art gallery at 56 and 58 Adams Ave. to talk about advantages and disadvantages to placing limits on the designs of buildings within a district that encompasses parts of Washington Avenue and nearby streets.
