I don't remember how many memorial ceremonies I attended last deployment. But, I remember my first, for SPC Gregory Missman of F Co, 2-12 Infantry. I remember the largest (for the 8 heroes of 3-61 Cavalry after COP Keating was overrun on October 3rd, 2009: SSG Vernon Martin, SSG Justin Gallegos, SGT Joshua Kirk, SGT Joshua Hardt, SGT Michael Scusa, SPC Stephan Mace, SGT Christopher Griffin, and PFC Kevin Thomson). Unfortunately, more recent memories have been formed with the three soldiers killed in action already suffered by my brigade, only two months into our current deployment - SSG Christopher Brown, SSG David Nowaczyk, and 1LT Alejo Thompson.
Memorial Day in America usually consists of a 3-day weekend, barbecues, retail sales, and maybe a parade or moment of silence to honor veter...
