Hotel planned for Maple Lawn Two local real estate development companies, St. John Properties Inc. and Greenebaum and Rose Associates, announced plans to construct a new, full-service hotel at Maple Lawn, a 600-acre, mixed- use community in Howard County. The hotel will contain 130-140 rooms and is expected to open by fall 2012, according to the announcement. The brand will be announced in a few weeks. St. John Properties and G&R Associates formed a joint venture partnership this spring to expand development of Maple Lawn, which is expected to contain more than 1.8 million square feet of retail and commercial office space. WRIT completes industrial assets' sale Washington Real Estate Investment Trust of Rockville, which has been selling off its industrial assets in order to reposition its portfolio, said it completed its fifth and final transaction of its industrial holdings by closing on the sale of two properties in Virginia, Dulles Business Park and 6100 Columbia Park Road, for $70.6 million. WRIT completed the first three industrial portfolio sale transactions in September for $235.8 million, and the fourth transaction in October for $44.5 million. Groundbreaking for Silver Spring apartments Home Properties Inc. of Rochester, N.Y., a multifamily residential real estate investment trust, announced the groundbreaking of Eleven55 Ripley, a new apartment development in downtown Silver Spring. The two-building complex -- one 21 stories high, the other 5 stories tall -- will contain 379 apartments, as well as urban rowhouses and lofts. Construction will continue throughout 2012 and much of 2013, with the first residents scheduled for occupancy in the third quarter of 2013. The 21-story apartment tower will be the tallest such building in Silver Spring, according to HPI. Eleven55 Ripley is designed by the Washington, D.C., firm of Shalom Barnes Associates P.C.
