TROTWOOD -- The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority presented an updated strategic plan to city council at its June 6 meeting. John Thomas, RTA's Chief Maintenance Officer said renovation and completion of the Northwest Transit Center in Trot-wood will cost between $750,000 to $800,000.
Local social service agencies purchasing bus tokens in bulk for job seeking clients could be eligible for significant discounts from the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority. Agencies that buy the tokens at the bulk rate of $1.50 each could be eligible for a $0.75 reimbursement per trip through the Transit Access Fund, Mark Donaghy, executive director of the transit authority said. The fund is designed to ease the transportation challenges facing low-income job seekers to obtain and maintain employment. The funds support work trips, along with rides to job training and workforce development programs.
More people are riding Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority buses at a time when ridership usually drops. RTA ridership climbed 5.6 percent in May, 4.8 percent in June and 1 percent in July compared to those months last year said Frank Ecklar, director of planning and marketing for the RTA. That translates to 81,600 more rides for those three months. Ridership overall on the RTA is up almost 2 percent this year with 87,000 more rides than this time last year he said.
RIVERSIDE -- High gas prices make public transportation look more attractive, and that's even before Riverside executes its plan to improve the look of bus stops around the city. A coalition of local churches announced Wednesday it has filed a complaint to federal agencies alleging the Beavercreek City Council violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by denying an application to install three public bus stops near the Mall at Fairfield Commons. Huff, former president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1385, received the pay even though he indicated there was "no membership authorization" for him to receive that amount of pay, the May memo said.
DAYTON -- The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority plans to offer commuters to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base a relaxing, express ride to work. The bus company, in June, plans to expand service to WPAFB Areas A, B and C, including a nonstop route via Interstate 675 from its South Transit Center on Lyons Road, two blocks south of the Dayton Mall.
