SANTA FE SPRINGS - Whittier police jailed three men at a Santa Fe Springs motel late Thursday suspected in a smash-and-grab jewelry store robbery in Fullerton earlier in the day, authorities said. Deshawn Coleman, 22, of Los Angeles, Bryant Burnett, 19, of Compton and Lavell Grant, 22, of Lynwood, are suspected in the Thursday's 4:45 p.m. heist at Fullerton Jewelry Mart, 1475 S. Harbor Ave., as well as auto theft, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said in a written statement. All are believed to be Los Angeles gang members.

Taos Lions Club's KidSight program will be expanded to the Taos Clinic for Children and Youth thanks to a $5,000 grant. Long Beach, Downey, Paramount, Signal Hill, Compton and South Gate and 10 other cities will benefit from a $10 million federal grant that will help them curb thousands of tons of trash from streaming into the Los Angeles River. The LA Gateway Region Integrated Regional Water Management Authority announced Wednesday that it will use the $10 million in American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funds to design and install about 4,000 trash-capturing devices in 16 cities where trash flows into the river through their storm drains.
