In response to two highly publicized escapes, a D.C. Council member who oversees the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services wants to speed up the release of pertinent information to the public when a young offender flees from custody. Currently, DYRS provides only "descriptive information of the escapee" to assist the apprehension of young offenders who may be a danger to themselves or the public, according to the office of Jim Graham, Ward 1 Democrat who oversees the Committee on Human Services.
RALEIGH, N.C. - Robby Benson knows how it sounds. But his reason for making a movie about the life of a young Billy Graham, the director says, is simple: "I wanted to make a movie about goodness. Billy: The Early Years" focuses on Graham's life as a teenager growing up on a dairy farm in Charlotte through his years as a young man, when he became a super-evangelist, drawing hundreds of thousands of people to his preaching tour "crusades."

The Billy Graham biopic that divided the Charlotte-born evangelist's grown children will come out on DVD on March 16. Billy: The Early Years," filmed in Tennessee and released in theaters in 2008, chronicles his formative years. It's a period that starts with a 1934 revival in Charlotte featuring fire-and- brimstone preacher Mordecai Ham that Graham said changed his life and ends with the 1949 crusade in Los Angeles that landed the young Graham on magazine covers.
