Alternatives to violence can work I don't disagree with much John M. Crisp says in his Aug. 30 Viewpoint column "Mennonites have right to conviction," regarding the decision at Goshen College to play "America the Beautiful" rather than "The Star-Spangled Banner" at athletic events. But when he writes "I'm not sure . the principle of pacifism is entirely realistic," some vital historical evidence is ignored. He seems to imply that we should be respectful of Mennonites and others who choose alternatives to violence, but that we should not take alternatives to war and violence too seriously.
