SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Rick Groendyke, a 53-year-old from South Jordan, heads a group of eight golfers who survived two rounds and moved into the quarterfinals at the UGA Senior Match Play golf tournament Wednesday at Talons Cove Golf Course.
Groendyke, the No. 32 seed, knocked off defending champion and No. 1 seed Ben Maddox 3 and 2, then beat Gordon Bowen 1 up in the second round.

VIRGINIA BEACH - , 89, passed away Jan. 26, 2010 at home. He was born Oct. 16, 1920 in Norfolk to Mary Laycock Woodward, a former school teacher from Leesburg and Herbert Morrison Woodward, an attorney from West Point, Va. He had an older brother, Herbert Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., who predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille "Cindy" Thomas Woodward; a son, Kent Dixon Woodward of Virginia Beach; and a daughter, Anne Bollie Mitchell and her husband John S. Mitchell of Norfolk.; three grandchildren, Hayden Bowen Woodward and her husband Alex Gordon- Brander of New York, John S. Mitchell Jr. and his partner Richard J. Mitchell of Washington, D.C., and Kathryn MacKenzie Mitchell of Norfolk. He was previously married to Anne Dixon Woodward, the mother of his children.

W Communications will embark on a "brand discovery" process Friday, trying to find the "emotional core of Utah" as it formulates the state's brand.
The Salt Lake-based ad agency recently won a state contract to brand and promote Utah. On Wednesday, its president, Mark Hurst, said the so-called "Team W" -- consisting of Hurst, W Communications' local team, Utahn Gordon Bowen, M Booth & Associates of New York City and Carat Media -- will work to determine what he called "the look of Utah," "the soul of Utah" and "the sound of Utah," all comprising the "emotional core of Utah.
