While it's not possible. for a 40-piece show to sample all of Ringgold's projects, A Faith Ringgold Retrospective, one of two exhibits on display at Folk Art, neatly moves from an early painting like "The In Crowd," reminiscent of Ben Shahn's work, to a quite tall sculpture portraying pro basketball star Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain, to masks such as "Dance Mask #4" and "Nigerian Brocade #2." There's no question that the masks are a highlight of the retrospective.

A grant application filed Friday puts the Buffalo schools in the running for millions of dollars in federal grants, but also commits school officials to the much trickier task of making a "good faith effort" to negotiate some form of merit pay with the Buffalo Teachers Federation.
