On the to-do list for the city of San Diego's Golf Operations Manager Mark J. Woodward, a Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) certified golf course superintendent, and his staff include new parking lots, $300,000 worth of tree maintenance and $500,000 worth of cart path improvements.

In late July, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law Senate Bill 699, legislation that authorizes water districts to collect the fees necessary to purchase additional water rights when new development creates the need for that additional water supply. In working with representatives of the Building Industry Association, golf course superintendents, area water districts, landscape architects, and local municipalities, the CVWD has just approved a revised landscape ordinance to require all new developments and golf courses to use water-efficient landscaping.

San Jose recently hit a hole in one when its Los Lagos Golf Course was named by Golf Digest magazine to be the most eco-friendly in the nation. Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, who was co-sponsor of the award, said that the course protected the delicate ecosystem and native wildlife, while still providing users with a terrific game of golf.
