The young girl who fled Afghanistan for Maine had never heard of Santa Claus until classmates told her that a white-bearded man would be visiting each of their homes with gifts.

LEVANT - James C. "Jimmy" McPhearson III, 16, died unexpectedly Nov. 7, 2011, as the result of an automobile accident in Carmel. He was born Feb. 10, 1995, in Harbor City, Calif., son of James C. Jr. and Kathy A. (King) McPhearson.
Jimmy was a student in the junior class of Hermon High School, where he played football for the past three years. He was a loving, outgoing, compassionate, humorous young man whose greatest passion was football.
