  • The following area students were named to the dean's honor list for the fall semester at Gettysburg College. Alyssa Bosold of Reinholds, a sophomore; Kathryn Bucolo of Denver, a first-year student; Briana Callahan of Mountville, a junior; Falon Deimler of Ephrata, a sophomore; Loren Deron of Lancaster, a junior.

  • The following area students graduated with honors from Gettysburg College on May 16. Andrew Reed of Elizabethtown, a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude; Joshua Caruthers of Lancaster, a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude; Alexander Horning of Elizabethtown, a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude; Owen Sensenig of Denver, a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude.

  • George Vallone got into construction in 1980, when he and his Gettysburg College buddy, Daniel Gans, paid $20,000 for a four-unit brownstone in Hoboken. Since then, the two partners in Hoboken Brownstone Co. have built more than 2,000 housing units and obtained the approvals for the redevelopment of the old Maxwell House factory site on the Hoboken waterfront, where Toll Brothers has built luxury housing. They are now planning the redevelopment of the Van Leer Chocolate factory property in Jersey City.

  • With the Gettysburg College Bullets coming to town for a big men's lacrosse game, the Salem High School student who serves as the Roanoke College mascot was hoping to get a mock bulletproof vest to wear. His plan didn't work out, but that's OK. His team stopped the Bullets.

  • The Rev. Ronald G. VanBlargan, a Lutheran minister and supply pastor at many Western New York churches, died Thursday in Buffalo General Hospital. He was 76. Born in Oneida, Pa., Mr. VanBlargan was a 1957 graduate of Gettysburg College in southern Pennsylvania and was ordained by the Central Pennsylvania Synod in 1960.
