The federal Department of Energy has approved a $98.6 million loan to U.S. Geothermal Inc. in Idaho to support the company's project to build a geothermal energy plant in Eastern Oregon. The loan will pay for 75 percent of the project cost, said Jonathan Zurkoff, vice president of finance for U.S. Geothermal.
There is continued work to develop new technologies to capture the sun's energy, including photovoltaic cells, concentrating solar power technologies and low-temperature solar collectors," said Linda Perry with the Mississippi Development Authority's (MDA's) Energy Division. Proponents say that every municipality ought to be taking notes on Wayne Township's proposal to generate its own heat and power using renewable solar, geothermal and wind energy as a way to cut energy costs. The cost of producing power is going to go up," said resident Martin Ludwig, who initiated the idea and now leads a planning committee of residents. While LEED certification may be a high standard for some to reach, it is EDA's company philosophy to approach every project using sustainable materials and procedures in ways that are both practical and cost effective.
