WASHINGTON, May 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and Georgetown University today announced their agreement to open a campus of Georgetown's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) in Doha, the capital of the state of Qatar, next fall.
Under the agreement signed today by Qatar Foundation Chairperson Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned and Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia, Georgetown University will begin offering courses to its first class of undergraduates in Qatar in August 2005.

Chris Taylor's Your View letter ("President is anti-life," Aug. 19) incorrectly alleges that President Obama "demanded" that Georgetown University cover up the IHS monogram representing Jesus which would have appeared above his head during a recent speech on the economy as an attempt to suppress not only Christianity but all religion.
Actually, Georgetown University agreed to the White House request to cover up all university signage and symbols. "It seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context," said Julie Green Bataille, Georgetown University spokeswoman. Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia greeted President Obama and was photographed with him at the very spot that is the source of the supposed controversy.

Georgetown fired men's basketball coach Craig Esherick last night in the wake of the Hoyas' second losing season in more than 30 years.
Georgetown president John J. DeGioia's decision came on the eve of a scheduled on-campus protest rally by Georgetown alumni upset with the direction the basketball program has taken. The Hoyas finished 13-15 under Esherick this season.

Jeff Moore, vice president of manufacturing at Toyota's Buffalo plant, has been named vice president of manufacturing at Toyota's big vehicle assembly plant in Georgetown, Ky., the company announced.
John Tinney, formerly assistant general manager at the Buffalo plant, has been promoted to general manager of manufacturing at the plant, the company said.
