The Arab World still has a secular ideology with power structures comprised of military, professionals, administrators and the middle class. In most of the countries of the region, Islamic groups have failed to capture power. However, decline of the Marxist and nationalist ideologies, death of Nasser, and the 1967 defeat of the Arab countries have caused a remission secularism. The emphasis shifted from modernization to issues of cultural identity during the 1970s. The Arab-Israeli peace process may help strengthen secular forces in the region.

Logan senior Noah Cottrill is playing on his third high school team in four seasons with the dream of winning a state championship. The former Poca star is glad the Wildcats dont have to go through the squad he sandwiched between the Dots and Logan. Bigger, stronger and faster Mountain State Academy bullied the Wildcats on Wednesday night in the Hoops Classic, taking command early in a 79-55 rout in the late game at the Charleston Civic Center. The result shouldnt be an indictment of Logans and Cottrills ability to contend for a Class AAA state championship next March. The Falcons (8-1) boast a handful of major college prospects and, so far, the Wildcats have one Cottrill who is headed to West Virginia University. He scored 30 points in his second game for Logan, giving the 6-foot-3...

Leaders of Caricom, the Caribbean trade bloc, will meet with U.S. President George Bush next week Wednesday (June 20) for their first full summit with an American leader in exactly a decade, but the original meeting agenda could be altered slightly following recent charges against four Caribbean nationals for allegedly plotting to blow up fuel depots at New York's JFK Airport.
We were planning to move forward rather than looking back at what has happened in the past. We are planning to concentrate on economics and development, given the thrust for regional transformation, but the latest developments will likely come up as a security issue. security is now a main pillar in the region," said foreign affairs chief Colin Granderson. "I won't be surprised.
