AUBURN -- , 87, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, at Hospice House. She was born on Aug. 22, 1924, in Lewiston, the daughter of Olier and Imelda Bachand. She married Roland Gauthier in May 1942. She was educated in Lewiston schools and worked her early years at Bates Mill and later in the housecleaning business.

WILLIAMSBURG - , 72, of Pasture Circle, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 in her residence with her loving family by her side. She was a former resident of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Willis and Mary Elizabeth Pulliam Willis and was preceded in death by her granddaughter Ashley. Carolyn attended Holy Trinity School and Princess Anne High School. She was a Roman Catholic and an active member and volunteer of St. Olaf Catholic Church, Norge, Va.

AUBURN -- , 94, of Hackett Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Androscoggin Hospice House following a long illness. She was born in St. Leonard, N.B., Canada, March 15, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Eugenie Lapointe Farrell. She was actually christened, Loretta Marie Ora Lei Cora Farrell; Ora Lei Cora meaning "Golden maiden of the laurel tree." She was affectionately called "Mere" by many.

Perhaps most striking is Mercy Now's title track, a hushed powerhouse that whispers like a prayer and hits like a summer storm. Poised by []'s brisk realism, it avoids becoming a plea: "Yeah, we all could use a little mercy now/I know we don't deserve it/But we need it anyhow." Elsewhere, on "I Drink" (a reprise from 1999's attention-demanding Drag Queens in Limousines), she spins lines like "Chicken TV dinner/6 minutes in defrost. 3 on high" that play like haikus for the disenchanted. And, in hindsight, the album-closing "It Ain't the Wind, It's the Rain paints the Louisiana native as soothsayer, though the song's hurricane is as much internal as external.
