Proposed liquefied natural gas terminals in the Gulf of Mexico won't be nearly as harmful as previously thought. Federal officials said they miscalculated original environmental impact estimates.
Shell U.S. Gas & Power LLC of Houston is planning to build an LNG terminal 38 miles south of Cameron Parish in the Gulf. The proposed terminal, one of at least nine planned for the Gulf, would use seawater to warm the liquid and convert it back into gas.

The Office of Fossil Energy (FE) of the Department of Energy (DOE) gives notice of receipt of an application (Application), filed on October 20, 2011 by Carib Energy (USA) LLC (Carib), requesting long- term, multi-contract authorization to export up to a total of 120,000 gallons per day of domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) (equivalent to approximately 3.44 Billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas per year) over a twenty-five year period, commencing on the earlier of the date of first export or five years from the date the requested authorization is granted. Kroger Co., parent company of Ralphs, rang up double-digit jumps in first-quarter revenue and net income, as the grocery chain's fuel stations and loyalty discounts helped draw more frequent shoppers when gas and grocery prices rose. The nation's largest traditional grocery operator now expects better results for the full year than earlier projected, even though Kroger leaders said U.S. economic improvement appears to be stagnating. That can help Kroger because people eat more meals at home instead of at restaurants and are looking for ways to manage spending against higher gas prices. Kroger said it has both been adding new customers and increasing the number of regular shoppers who earn rewards such as fuel discounts and special coupons for items they buy often.
