In the growing debate over the nation's gas drilling boom, one refrain from the industry has been a constant: There's never been a case where fracturing of rock to break loose gas reserves - known as fracking - has contaminated residential drinking water supplies.

Contributions to disaster relief are slowing to a trickle. "Donor fatigue" is the explanation of choice for the recent lull in giving. According to this account, Americans' generosity has been exhausted by constant appeals from across the globe, as well as by higher gas prices at home. Give Americans time and some good economic news, this line of thought goes, and the money will start flowing again. However, it may actually be donor distrust, not fatigue, that may be the primary cause of the slowdown in giving. Americans don't think that nonprofits are handling their money effectively, and so are tightening the grip on their charitable dollars.

FUEL FOR THOUGHT
Want to reduce the burden of debt on our children and grandchildren? The Congressional Budget Office says that a mere 25- cent increase in gas taxes would cut the federal deficit by more than $291 billion over the next 10 years. Remember: The federal gas tax has remained constant at 18.4 cents per gallon since 1993 (and has therefore been declining for almost two decades, in real terms). So to some extent an increase would be equivalent to repealing an expensive tax cut.

PADEP's media release said that the rates of discharge have been relatively constant. * And finally, high volumes of gas well drilling water are being treated by sewage treatment plants in the Monongahela River basin.

At any given temperature, the pressure times the volume of a gas is a constant. Applying this durable 17th Century law of physics, discovered by Robert Boyle, to the whale behaviors described in Herman Melville's novel 'Moby Dick', yields interesting perspectives on Melville's scientific prowess, and on the history of the science of manned undersea diving.

I am a retired senior citizen on a fixed income. I can't do whatever I want, when I want. I am confused about state and federal governments' failure to do something to help us all with the constant rising price of gas and oil, not to mention everything else. If some money were not sent overseas, maybe things would level off.
How can the government expect to survive the middle-income families who work so hard to keep their homes and take care of their families? Most of these families have the wives and mothers working, as they cannot survive on one salary.
