EAST RUTHERFORD - Jason Garrett didn't call the play that led to the Cowboys' most important touchdown against the Giants on Sunday afternoon, but by the looks of him on the Dallas sideline, he sure felt like a part of it.
Garrett, the rookie coach making his debut, was running down the sideline as Bryan McCann, the rookie cornerback making the biggest play of the game, sprinted toward the end zone.

Northern Iowa hammers Edwardsville in Vegas Classic Lucas O'Rear and Anthony James each scored 12 points to lead Northern Iowa to a 68-47 victory over SIU-Edwardsville in the Las Vegas Classic on Sunday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. O'Rear was 5 of 7 from the field for the Panthers (7-3), who have won three straight. Northern Iowa led 36-23 at halftime. After SIU-Edwardsville cut its deficit to eight with 16:41 to play, the Panthers put together a 17-5. Northern Iowa led by at least 13 the rest of the way. No. 24 Notre Dame 88, Stony Brook 62 -- At South Bend, Ind.: Tim Abromaitis scored 22 points to lead Notre Dame. Carleton Scott made all eight of his shots, including three treys, and had 20 points.

Retired Lt. Col. Garrett E. McGowan died Dec. 12, 2006, after an extended illness. He was a graduate of the Infantry Basic Officers Course at Fort Benning, Ga., the Quartermaster Company Officers Course and the Petroleum Officers Supply Course, the Quartermaster Advanced Officers Course at Fort Lee and the Manpower Control Officer Course at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind.
His military service included tours in Italy, Korea and twice in Vietnam. His stateside assignments included Fort Benning, Fort Chaffee, Ark., Fort Leea, the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, and at the Continental Army Command, later reorganized as the Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe.
