The 2010 Empire State Games in Buffalo were so successful that they have left a legacy -- measured in dollars, scholarships and even seed money for future competitions in case the Games make another comeback. The local organizing committee made a profit of about $125,000, mostly from ticket sales for the opening ceremonies and the competition, and all of that has been reinvested in Western New York in various ways through the Buffalo Legacy fund.
News Advisory: Officials of the Organizing Committee for the XX Olympic Winter Games of Torino 2006 (TOROC) will use New York's Columbus Day festivities as a backdrop for promoting the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games. MEXICO CITY - The organizing committee of the 2011 Panamerican Games in Guadalajara say any faulty medals will be replaced after several athletes complained that their prizes had faded in color, particularly the bronze medals. The games organizers say they have asked the national Olympic committees that took part to report any problems so the defective medals can be replaced "immediately.

While scorningthe boycottera of the Summer Olympics as "either ignorant or ill-natured" and "doomed to fail," Chinese leaders are engaged in a campaign to "protect" the sanctity and reputation of the Olympic games themselves: "We are against any attempt to politicize the Olympic games," says Sun Weide, spokesman for the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games.
