Poker lovers are anything but poker-faced when it comes to talking about their favorite game. It's a game of skill, not chance, says Harvard law professor Charles Nesson, who got the ball rolling with a blaze of publicity and personal appearances earlier this year talking about poker as a tool valuable for teaching basic life skills, strategic thinking, risk assessment and even money management.
The cards have been dealt to Superior Court to decide whether Texas Hold 'em poker tournaments are unlawful gambling under Pennsylvania law. Last month, Columbia County Judge Thomas James upped the ante in the debate by issuing a ruling that explored the dynamics of poker. James determined poker was exempt from the gambling law because it is a game of skill and not a game of chance.

AUGUSTA - A recent opinion by Maine Attorney General Janet Mills that a new type of electronic bingo machine is illegal has put the state at odds with the Penobscot Nation.
