• County Team Wins Futsal Championship

The DCFA Flamengo, a 12-and-under girls futsal team from Severna Park, captured a national title last weekend at the the 23rd U.S. Futsal National Championship held at the Baltimore Convention Center. The Flamengo defeated the reigning Eastern Regional champs, Explosion Fire, 2-1 in Sunday's title game. The Flamengo, who finished second to the Fire in Boston during regionals in March, won five straight matches to win the first national title for Denison Cabral's futsal academy. DCFA, which is based in Severna Park's Sportsplex, advanced two teams to national title matches and five teams to the semifinals. Flamengo was the only team to take gold.
