NASHVILLE - Republicans rushed a vote Wednesday on Gov. Bill Haslam's plan to cap damage awards juries can set in personal- injury cases and place other new restrictions on liability lawsuits.
The House Judicial subcommittee approved and sent the "Civil Justice Act of 2011" to the full committee, after blocking any testimony on the governor's latest amendment to the bill and refusing to hear any other amendments. The Haslam administration's amendment was given to members minutes before the subcommittee convened.

Rev. Al Green stood in front of his congregation at Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, 34 years since he founded it, and broke into a chorus of "Amazing Grace," mid-sentence, as he has so many times before.
How marvelous the grace that caught my falling soul," sang Green, 64, in his unmistakable falsetto, bringing his congregation to its feet as Green and his Whitehaven church celebrated the 34th anniversary of their founding with a Sunday afternoon service.

WASHINGTON - The House Ethics Committee on Thursday recommended censure for longtime Rep. Charles Rangel, suggesting that the New York Democrat suffer the embarrassment of standing before his colleagues while receiving an oral rebuke by the speaker for financial and fundraising misconduct.
Censure is the most serious congressional discipline short of expulsion. The House, which could change the recommended discipline by making it more serious or less serious, probably will consider the recommendation after Thanksgiving.

Bob Saget wasn't sure what to do when Endemol USA asked him to host the new game show "1 vs. 100." And so, he consulted old pal Howie Mandel, who emcees an established Endemol hit, NBC's "Deal or No Deal.
I called Howie, and I said, 'What do you think?' and he said, 'Don't touch me,' " Saget says, quickly adding that he's just joking about the response (a reference to Mandel's widely publicized OCD). "I've known Howie for 25-plus years. We're stand-ups. And his stand- up is not unlike mine in that it is bluish. ... A lot of my comedy is nasty but not hurtful.

Ingram touched the lives of hundreds of young persons during his career. If you grew up playing sports on any of the local playgrounds in Fort Lauderdale anywhere from the '60s up to now, you were bound to have run across Coach Ingram. I personally witnessed Ingram the player and Ingram the coach while attending full house games at the Dillard High Panther's Den. He brought the same excitement and enthusiasm when he coached as when he played the game. Although he had successful stints while coaching at Piper, Douglass, and Boyd Anderson High Schools, Panthers blue and gray ran through his veins. His compiled a record 553 wins to 188 losses during his coaching career in Broard County.
Dillard High junior varsity football and basketball coach Dwayne "Rock" Nelson, 44, was a troubled fi...
