The state's attorney's office has decided to extradite a man accused of being the East Coast Rapist to Virginia instead of first trying him here in connection with a 2007 rape of a woman in her city home. Earlier this month, Connecticut served Aaron Thomas, 40, of New Haven, with a fugitive from justice warrant, though he is being held here. On Nov. 4, two days later, he was served with a governor's warrant seeking his return to Virginia.
LISBON -- A wild 1.8 mile, seven-minute chase through side streets in downtown Lisbon Falls, which began when a [3/4]-ton pickup truck slammed backwards into the front of a police cruiser, led to a foot chase early Sunday morning. When it was over, police arrested Willard Garland Jr., 42, who was wanted on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of Florida.
BETHEL -- A local man was charged with being a fugitive from justice on a warrant from California. Oxford County Sheriff Deputy Matthew Noyes arrested Leopold Thomas Huff, 25, at 10:05 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, on Holly Place in Bethel. He was transported to Oxford County Jail where he will be held until he is extradited to California.
The man accused of eluding Passaic cops in a chase that resulted in a fatal crash is wanted in Virginia in a case that mirrors Monday's high-speed attempt to escape from police, according to law enforcement there. Calvin Raines, 39, of Petersburg, Va., is being held in the Passaic County Jail without bail on a fugitive-from-justice warrant from Virginia. Raines was arrested Monday in connection with a narcotics bust that spiraled out of control when he allegedly tried to escape Passaic police officers after a drug transaction on Sherman Street in Passaic.
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Follansbee man has been charged with murder in an alleged road rage incident on U.S. 22 near Burgettstown on Sept. 20. Ian Angus McClain, 19, of Lot 10, 150 Woodcrest Road, was arrested Wednesday by the Brooke County Sheriff's Department on a fugitive from justice warrant at a Marshall Terrace home.
A man police believe could be New York's "ice pick mugger" is awaiting extradition at the Bergen County Jail after being arrested Saturday night in Cliffside Park. John A. Martinez, 39, of the Bronx was being held on a fugitive- from-justice warrant on Monday night and was awaiting an extradition hearing before Superior Court Judge Liliana S. DeAvila-Silebi, said Jennifer Monaghan, a spokeswoman for the Bergen County Sheriff's Office.
