Investigators and a national television show are teaming up to renew efforts to track down a fugitive suspected in a drunken driving crash that seriously injured a Glendora couple in Montclair.
Jesus De La Herran, a 32-year-old real estate agent known for a penchant for partying, is accused of being drunk early on Sept. 29, 2006, when he slammed his new Chevrolet Corvette into a pickup truck occupied by Joseph Drake, his wife Patricia, and five friends and family members on the 10 Freeway in Montclair, according to Ontario police Detective Byron Lee, who is also a special deputy with U.S. Marshals' Fugitive Task Force.

LISBON, Portugal - Captured American fugitive George Wright will claim a new identity to prevent the U.S. from extraditing him, his lawyer said Saturday.
Wright, 68, became a Portuguese citizen, called Jose Luis Jorge dos Santos, in 1991 after marrying a Portuguese woman, lawyer Manuel Luis Ferreira told The Associated Press.

PUEBLO, Colo. - Three fugitive siblings wanted in a crime spree in Florida and Georgia were captured Wednesday in Colorado after firing shots at officers during a high-speed chase and crashing their car into a highway barrier, authorities said.
Ryan Edward Dougherty, 21; Dylan Dougherty Stanley, 26; and Lee Grace Dougherty, 29, were targets of a nationwide search after they were accused of shooting at a police car during a chase last week in Florida and robbing a Georgia bank with assault weapons.

Chain gangs have been reinstated in several states - Alabama, Arizona, Florida, and Ohio (Glazer 1195)· While legal scholars are debating "the propriety and constitutionality" of forced labor or giving prison authorities advice on how to avoid potential lawsuits from convicts' families (1223), literary and cultural scholars might want to examine the fate of the rehabilitative model of justice and of the high hopes for prison reform in the 1930s. Since today minorities are as overrepresented in chain gangs as they were in Burns' time, we have to ask if the word "legacy" is premature and if justice remains fugitive.

A fugitive suspected of killing a Rialto man at a Victorville nightclub in November was captured by authorities after a brief standoff near Barstow.
Joseph Ray Rice, 29, barricaded himself in a home in the 34500 block of Camino Real in Lenwood when law enforcement arrived at the residence, authorities said. Members of the sheriff's Specialized Enforcement Division used a bullhorn to convince him to surrender.
