Wales Town Board members will travel to Pennsylvania next month to hear firsthand how loud a natural gas transfer station is before they decide whether to allow one in their town. National Fuel wants to build a transfer station on Reiter Road in Wales, to be used to pump natural gas through a pipeline to Canada. But some residents and environmental activists have objected to the plan and want the utility to build elsewhere. One of the concerns is the noise the station would create.

The pilot of a small plane on loan to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office didn't follow -- and was unaware of -- procedures that could have affected engine operation the day the aircraft made an emergency landing on Route 80, a report by the Federal Aviation Administration says. The single-engine Tecnam P-92 Eaglet touched down on the eastbound express lanes of the highway on Jan. 31 after experiencing engine failure on its descent into Teterboro Airport.
