DEAR ABBY: I am a 38-year-old woman with three beautiful children. For the past eight years, I lived with a man I care for very much, "Rick," who is an alcoholic.
Two years ago, I decided to take the children and move to China, teaching English and learning Chinese. The experience has been fabulous.

IT'S been 45 years, but I vividly recall my fellow intern at The Bronx Municipal Hospital Center describing his boyhood experience seeing Jews hanging from lampposts in Baghdad. Shortly thereafter, his family, with approximately 800,000 other Jews living in Arab lands, were expelled from their homes and fled to Israel. They lived in refugee camps, experienced dislocation and despair, but eventually were integrated into Israeli society or made their way to other Western countries.
Sixty-three years later, we don't hear much about the Jewish refugees from Arab countries, but the plight of Palestinians dislocated by the same conflict is still in the news.

It should come as no surprise that there are AIDS denialists as well. Typically they either reject the fact that AIDS exists, disagree that HIV causes AIDS, claim that AIDS is caused by the very medications designed to treat it, or try to dissuade people from getting tested for HIV.
Nearly 500,000 of the 1.2 million Americans living with HIV/AIDS are Black. Nearly 40 percent of Black Americans have a family member or close family friend who is living with or who has died from HIV/AIDS. I have been living with HIV for nearly 30 years. Those of us living with HIV/AIDS or who have lost family and friends to it know painfully well that the connection between HIV and AIDS is not theoretical; it is very, very real.

No longer able to cope with living apart from his family and still dealing with the tragic 2003 death of his oldest daughter, Marquette University great Bo Ellis will step down as men's basketball assistant on June 30 and instead turn his focus to working with youths in his hometown of Chicago.
The move will formally end a memorable 16-year relationship between Ellis and MU that began in 1974, when he arrived on campus as a highly touted recruit of coach Al McGuire, and peaked in '77, when he captained the team to its lone national championship.
