This proposed rule would establish the basic requirements for the operation of the (FFVP) in conformance with the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act. It would set forth administrative and operational requirements for FFVP operators at the State and local levels. The intent of these provisions is to ensure that the FFVP encourages the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables by elementary school children, thus improving their dietary habits and long-term health.

Pitcairn Elementary students are getting a chance to chow down with a healthy snack and learn a thing or two about it.

GUILFORD - SAD 4 has received a $24,760 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant through the federal government's fresh fruit and vegetable program.
The grant, applied for by SAD 4 Food Services Director Roxanne Chase, enables pupils in kindergarten through grade eight to receive a daily snack in addition to the regular lunch served daily. The snacks are served in the morning or afternoon, depending on the classroom schedule.
