Harrill's Grocery, located just across East Frederick Street from the Harrill family home, was a big part of life in this small town.
It's also where, in the 1950s, a woman who would become one of Maine's most powerful politicians learned about hard work, interacting with the public and helping those who were struggling to make ends meet.

LANCASTER: An Xbox, laptop computer, iPod and television set, worth a total of $1,850, were taken Sunday from a home in the 500 block of North Plum Street. Entry was by an unlocked door.
LANCASTER: A resident of the 400 block of West Frederick Street came home Monday to find two men in her home. She yelled and they fled. Nothing was taken. The two men were described as a black man, age 18 to 20, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build, short hair, with a thin beard, wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts; and a black or Hispanic man, medium build and wearing a black T-shirt and shorts.

City police are searching for a Lancaster man in connection with Wednesday's shooting on West Frederick Street.

A 5-year-old girl was mauled by a pit bull in the North Side on Saturday.
Police were called to the 3000 block of Frederick Street after the child's grandfather told police the girl laid on top of the 11- month-old dog, causing it to attack her.

From the carefully maintained Federal- and Colonial-style rowhouses to the church spires that define its skyline, downtown Frederick bears the markings of its 258-year history. Lately the old has mixed with the new in a revitalized downtown that boasts 16 new businesses and more on the way.
Last year the new tenants included seven new restaurants and eateries, a convenience store, two clothing stores, a salon that soon will include a day spa, a stationery store, an herb and gift store, an art and furniture store, a home accessories store, and a hand-crafted gift store.

Rialto resident Rodney King was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Tuesday afternoon.
Moreno Valley police officers pulled King over about 2:45 p.m. near Frederick Street and Brabham Drive after witnessing multiple vehicle code violations, officials said.
