Eleanor Library A True Community Project By Marty Chapman, President
I would like to congratulate Fred Halstead, Mayor of Eleanor and the Putnam County Library Director Jackie Chaney on the Grand Opening of the new Eleanor Public Library. This beautiful structure was opened on August 18th with what was a true community project. The structure was paid for with public and private funds. The Town of Eleanor, The State of West Virginia and The Putnam County Commission all dedicated funding for the facility. Several local businesses also donated funds; however the two that stand out most are Diamond Electric and Quality Woods. Diamond Electric sponsored and worked a 5K run the last two years with all proceeds going to the library. Sal Rossi of Quality Woods designed and built the beautiful w...

The trial court made an adequate inquiry into defendants dissatisfaction with court-appointed counsel; a defendants right to be brought to trial within the time limits expressed in R.C. 2945.71 may be waived by his counsel for reasons of trial preparation, and the defendant is bound by the waiver even though the waiver is executed without his consent; defendant received effective assistance of counsel; the trial court engaged in a colloquy to ensure that defendants decision to waive his constitutional right to counsel was knowingly, voluntarily, and intelligently made; the trial court properly determined that the state established, by a preponderance of the evidence, that defendant was advised of his Miranda rights; the trial courts curative instruction alleviated any prejudice stem...

Though they cannot supplant nor replace other methodologies, films can possibly raise new questions, provide different perspectives, and reveal unique ways of knowing about seminal subject, at least by comparison to the standard fare of academic analysis. Each one, "ethics" and "leadership," draw upon substantially different intellectual literatures, scholarly methodologies, traditional assumptions, and disciplinary perspectives. Film, often far better than social science literature, may provide a more "holistic account" of not only individual lives, but entire situations where ethical leadership is practiced. Finally, ethical leadership includes the use of symbols. Symbols abound throughout, thus giving the story meaning, depth, and power beyond simply "a typical feel-good" movie. List...

When I was a dance class kid in the '50s, the Golden Age of movie musicals was done. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were out; Balanchine's ballets, Martha Graham, Agnes De Mule's revolutionary musicals were in. Tap was relegated to the warpy wood floors of second-rate Dolly Dinkle ballet schools. Glover's usually credited with saving tap dance, though that's not quite right. The liquid, lanky-faced dancer/actor Gregory Hines, star of movies I loved like Frances Ford Coppola's Cotton Club (1984) and White Nights with Mikhail Baryshnikov (1985), was the real bridge between the legendary rhythm tappers and the genre's resurgence. Hines was Glover's mentor. But it's Glover, with his trademark dreads and baggy threads, who made hoofin' hip for the next generation.
