Alma Hutcherson Amrhein, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, died on Thursday, August 31, 2011, in Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Russell Amrhein, of Amrhein Jewelers.
She is survived by three sons, Terry Amrhein and daughter-in- law, Cindy, of Bridport, Vt., Russ Amrhein and daughter-in-law, Paula, of Bent Mountain, Va., and Ken Amrhein and daughter-in- law, Valerie, of Aylett, Va. SEATTLE (AP) -- A lawsuit asserting that doctors should have warned a woman to have her ovaries removed because she had a high risk of ovarian cancer was settled in 2001 for $1.6 million, a newly unsealed court file reveals.
The apparently unprecedented case was brought against Virginia Mason Medical Center by the family of Ann Chadwick of Bainbridge Island, a University of Washington nurse who died at age 43 in 1999, leaving a husband and daughter, but the entire file was sealed by Carlos Velategui, a King County Superior Court commissioner.
