Anyone who read Editor Frank Scandale's column last weekend knows that starting next month, I become the paper's new Washington correspondent.
I want my final Capital Games column to explain why that is happening, and reflect a little on what a long, strange trip it's been covering Trenton for the better part of the past 20 years.

Pardon me for a minute. Before I start writing this column, I want to run in to see Frank Scandale, the editor of The Record, to ask for a 76 percent raise. This'll just take a second. Frank'll understand; he's a reasonable guy. I'll tell him I need it; need is good.
And I'll tell him I deserve it because I've done a lot of good work, I don't call in sick much, and I meet my deadlines. Newspaper secret: You can keep a pet rattlesnake in your desk but if you file your stories on time you find that the editors avoid talking about your delightful little hobby.

John's 14-page book included his own artwork and words typeset on his computer, with a sprinkling of glitter, cutouts and humor. "The Amazing Trip to California" gives John's view of the family's trip, including a hotel room with Nintendo amenities; the Jurassic Park Water Adventure and Revenge of the Mummy rides at Universal Studios; getting soaked at Sea World, where they also took the Atlantis ride five times; and playing mini-golf, arcade games and laser games. Obviously, the vacation was a success so much so t...

The Associated Press Sports Editors have named The Record's Sports section one of the 10 best in the United States in its circulation category.
The judges only underscored what I have known all along, that The Record Sports Department raises its game to a pro level every day it comes to play," said Frank Scandale, Editor of The Record. "The amount of passion this department puts into the section seven days a week plays out by being named one of the 10 best in the nation in our category. Just think about that. I'm very proud of them.

NOT in my wildest imaginations could I have envisioned what life would be like 10 years after the Twin Towers collapsed in the distance from my office window.
In those brutally raw hours of fear, confusion and uncertainty that day, we at The Record focused only on the now and the immediate future.
..., "That's it!" when photographer Tom Franklin's now-famous image of the three firefighters putti...
