The Missouri wrestling team placed third in the Southern Scuffle yesterday. The Tigers scored 136 points, finishing behind Penn State with 191.5 and Minnesota with 177.5. Missouri's Brent Haynes won the 197-pound championship when Cornell's top-ranked Cam Simaz was forced to default because of injury. Haynes beat Minnesota's second-ranked Sonny Yohn 6-0 in the semifinal. MU's Alan Waters advanced to the final with a 3-2 victory over Cornell's seventh-ranked Frank Perrelli before losing his first match of the year, 1-0 to Minnesota's top-ranked Zach Sanders.
PHILADELPHIA | He's waited three long years to get back, but Bubba Jenkins will return tonight to the finals of the NCAA wrestling championships at the Wells Fargo Center. Arizona State's Jenkins narrowly escaped No. 12 seed Paul Young of Indiana 4-3 in the 157-pound quarterfinals, then caught a break. Top-seeded Adam Hall of Boise State, who beat Jenkins in quadruple overtime in the Pac-10 finals, was upset in Friday morning's quarterfinals by No. 8 seed Jason Welch of Northwestern. Jenkins then erased a third-period deficit with a pair of late take-downs to beat Welch in the evening semifinal.

ATLANTIC CITY North Bergen senior Bob Dabal went from nowhere to wearing a bronze medal in a little more than 24 hours. After losing to Perth Amboy junior Gabe Roman in the first round at 119 pounds, Dabal went on an amazing run through the wrestlebacks, beating two State champions, Northern Highlands' Fred Santaite and Delbarton's Frank Perrelli, along the way.
